  1. Along with many other greatest tunes from the mid to late 60's, this tune really made its mark, and was one of the most complex and intriguing hits with its sensational lyrics and well-performed music by the Association, which I think had some of the most talented musicians in this genre of music at the time/5(31).

  3. The album reached #5 on the Billboard album charts and features their first two hits, "Along Came Mary," which topped off at #7 and "Cherish," which made it all the way to the top and deserves to be considered one of the great love songs of all-time (David Cassidy did a more than decent cover of it with the Partridge Family)/5(6).
  4. Involved in a spiritual movement called Subud, The Association took the first five recordings they cut with Boettcher ("Along Comes Mary," "Your Own Love," "Remember," "I'll Be Your Man" and "Better Times") to Subud elders. After doing some "testing," the elders picked "Along Comes Mary" backed with "Your Own Love" as the band's next single/5(52).
  5. The album is anchored by what truly are Greatest Hits, not just of the Association but of the decade itself, "Everything That Touches You,""Never My Love," "Along Comes Mary," "Cherish," and "Windy." Most groups would be able to dine out forever on just one or two hits of their magnitude/5().
  6. THis band had a few truly great hits but like many bands they don't have the depth to create a bonafide "Greatest Hits" album. The most memorable songs are the ones us oldsters all remember - Cherish, Windy, Along Comes Mary, and my personal fave - "Never My Love"/5().
  7. The album is usually neglected because of the Association's reputation as a soft rock outfit and the prominence of the hits "Cherish" and "Along Comes Mary," both of which are too poppy for most serious '60s archeologists.
  8. Along Comes the Association. It was their first hit and reached number seven on the U.S. charts. It was their first hit and reached number seven on the U.S. charts. "Along Comes Mary" is sung from the point of view of a once-disillusioned young man talking about the "tribulations no one ever sees" and who "curse[s] those faults in me.".
